Being F.R.A.N.K Volume 3

Hello my humans. Mom was in town this weekend so I am feeling well fed, my house is more organized and gorgeous than its been in months

F is for Feasting

With my mom in town, it can be guaranteed we will be eating good. I think I took a singular picture of all the meals we ate but below listed all our meals and the highlight dishes

  • Dinner the night she arrived was at Diner in Williamsburg. I LOVE Diner. Sam originally showed us (and shoutout Julianna for showing him) but it is just the best aesthetic, food is always delicious and I love the touch that they write the food menus on the table for you. (one time I had a waiter who read them upside down backwards which was the most impressive thing I’ve ever seen). Anyways - the menu was sea heavy randomly, so we ended up with scallops over beans, grilled razor clams (which I am SHOCKED my mom liked), delicata squash and homemade stracciatella and of course, the bread and butter. For mains my mom had a burger (it is good every time and GREAT fries), I had celery root bourguignon with multiple times of mushrooms and pearl onions (it was just okay) and Duncan had pappardelle with oxtail, bone marrow and mushrooms (it was fantastic). Diner is great for when your parents are in town for dinner and they do a great weekend brunch.

  • Next morning we went into Chelsea to meet my aunt for Lunch at Wildflower. We had their caesar with pickled onions and grilled chicken (awesome caesar) and shared fries. Never a neighborhood I am in but nice spot!

  • For dinner Thursday we were having a crazy NYC night by going to jazz at 10:15pm. We had an 8pm dinner at an NYC classic, Pecora Bianca. Say what you will about it, but their rigatoni vodka hits every single time.

  • Friday we took the longest trip to Ikea I have ever been on in my life but we absolutely devoured the refresh of my apartment. After a long day there was only one man we could call: Uncle Tony. Tony’s Pizzeria in Bushwick is absolutely fantastic and we love it so much we refer to it as Uncle Tony.

  • Saturday we spent the entire day reorganizing and redecorating the apartment. Ended the night with Blue Collar Bushwick.

R is for Reading (Books)

I am still chugging along with American Psycho this week. I just this morning read a 7 page long chapter where he goes into an incredibly impassioned and detailed account of his opinion of Whitney Houston, which happens with different artists multiple times throughout the book. I am intrigued to see where it ends up.

A is for Adventuring (places I go/activities)

Among many thousands of steps my mom and I took around both Brooklyn and Manhattan these past few days, my adventure section this week is dedicated to jazz at The Django, a famous spot in the cellar of The Roxy Hotel on the border of Soho and Tribeca.

My parents are HUGE jazz people, so along with using this trip as a way to bring my cat back from Florida, we also were able to have it coincide with one of her favorite jazz musicians, Jeff Rupert, performing (who I also saw here last fall). The space itself is just very sexy and romantic and they serve food and require a two drink minimum for shows. It was an awesome set and Jeff brought out his son to play and my mom cheered so loud that after the show a woman came up and asked if she was Preston’s mom. Even though it was a late night for all, it was very fun and special to me to have my mom and all my besties hanging out.

N is for Nonsense (Anything random)

My nonsense of this week is this video and the special little friends living in our home that mister has been murdering for us…
